We created this shirt in partnership with Edukid to help support the wonderful work they do in providing education for young people living in poverty or war-torn areas. Edukid is a Devon-based charity helping to remove the barriers to education faced by children living in poverty and conflict.
Edukid believes all children have the right to attend school and that education is a long-term solution to enabling communities to break out of their cycle of poverty. Since 2003 Edukid has been a platform for hope, equal rights, opportunity and inclusive education. We work with local communities to develop sustainable ways to improve their quality of life.
They currently support over 2600 children living in poverty in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and South America. These shirts were created to help raise awareness of the incredible work Edukid does.
The meaning behind the shirt
The bold pink colour is unmistakably Edukid, and the three stripes that adorn the front and back of the shirt combine traditional motifs from Uganda, Cambodia, and Peru - the 3 countries they operate in. On the reverse you'll also notice the country silhoettes with a recognisable emblem that represents each country.
The motifs
The 3 vertical stripes feature designs that represent each of the countries Edukid operates in. The olubugo bark cloth is made by the Baganda people of Uganda, Khmer ornamentation is made of traditional decorative elements of Cambodian architecture, and Chancay interlocking textiles originates from the present-day Peruvian coast circa year 1000.
There is a subtle-slogan along the shoulder line 'Education for a brighter future' - which is Edukid's motto.
Profits from these jerseys support Edukid's wonderful work. Learn more on the Edukid website.
